“One of the principle difficulties in establishing a list of
top performing family owned businesses is that there is no comprehensive
list of independent family businesses in Ireland currently available.
Clearly we should be raising awareness about family businesses and the
value that the family business brings to the Irish economy.
In comparison to the US there has been little research in this country
into family businesses. However, family businesses in Ireland have still
managed to endure and survive despite a lack of research, infrastructure
and support for the family business,” explains Dr Naomi Birdthistle.
In our Top 50 List the following are examples of some of the most
successful and enduring business families in Ireland and supports the
fact that family businesses have a long history and are of great significance
to our overall economic wellbeing.
