To calculate the net worth value, companies that officially filed accounts in 2006 were analysed against their filed accounts for 2004 and the percentage of networth growth was calculated and ranked in order of highest percentage growth (records supplied by ICC, via CRO). The 2006 figures have been employed, as this is the most recent year for fully completed accounts and company ­information submitted to the CRO. The companies taken into the lists are both private and public only. The EU Commission’s definition of a medium sized company, has a net worth between €10 million and €43 million and of a small sized company, has a net worth between €1.5 ­million and €10 million.

To qualify for listing all companies must be currently trading and meet the EU criteria for an SME for all accounting periods analysed. All accounts filed in sterling have been converted to euro at the current rate of £1=€1.43. Religious or charitable organisations are excluded with most companies operating independently however where a subsidiary has a higher value than its holding company it takes preference.
