SWEET IDEA
Cherub Delights, set up by Donna and Phillipe Farineau specialises in making handmade chocolates.

In July 2006 in Lahinch Co Clare, Cherub Delights was setup by Donna, wedding co-ordinator and husband Philippe, previously a head chef. They say their main goal in their new endeavour, “is to give the best five star quality at the right price.” Their products are unique. For example, art chocolate frames can be made to order and are fashioned to every customer’s individual wishes. Their products are made fresh every week using the finest Belgian chocolate.

Their creative luxury chocolates can be purchased in most craft and food fairs around Clare and this month they will be opening their own unit in Ennistymon.

Donna Farineau explains why they went into the chocolate business and the response they’re getting so far. “Chocolate is Philippe’s passion. He finds it a very good way to be creative with food. We said we’ll give Cherub Delights one full year and so far so good. We have thoroughly enjoyed our first six months and are looking forward to taking it to the next level in 2007.”

ANSWERING THE CALLING
Kendlebell leads trend towards personilised virtual office services for small businesses.

Sixty five per cent of callers hang up when they hear a voicemail message according to recent market research carried out in Britain. So to businessmen Tom Shanahan and David Kelly, Kendlebell seemed the perfect answer. Kendlebell offers a range of personalised, “virtual office “ services for small businesses. Clients simply divert their telephone lines to their own exclusive Kendlebell number and a team of professionals represent them as if they were sitting in their own office.

Kendlebell has been in operation in the UK for a number of years. Shanahan and Kelly have brought the concept to Ireland and it is a franchise opportunity for entrepreneurs that are interested in providing a professional, efficient service to small companies. “We intend to roll the franchise out through the main population centres in Ireland over the coming years,” explains Shanahan.

Outsourcing front–end receptionist duties enables clients to focus on their core business. Key objectives may be to cut costs, increase efficiency, reduce capital outlay and ultimately increase profitability. Outsourcing telephone answering activity reduces capital outlay on telephony systems, e-communication tools, database development, IT maintenance, customer relationship management and office floor space. It also reduces the overhead and risk of employing and managing receptionist staff. Depending on requirements, clients can choose between five packages that range from €50 per month (entry Level) to €300 per month (platinum).

“If you only need help when you have absenteeism issues or when your employees are on holiday, Kendlebell offers a daily rate where they can handle your calls when you are in need,” explains Shanahan.

GROW YOUR COMPANY IQ
Chambers Ireland launches new innovation management certificate programme.

'Grow your Company IQ' is open to small and medium companies from any sector. During the programme, participants will explore their firm’s innovation strategy, and identify either internal innovation development or seek to acquire technology elsewhere for application to their own operation.

The programme, which started in January, will be run at a number of regional locations, with monthly facilitated workshops run in conjunction with a number of local Chambers. The programme uses a combination of classroom learning, facilitated workshops and in-company practical projects. The programme will run over a 12 month period, and will take participants through the innovation process by assisting them in implementing identified knowledge transfer projects in their organisation.
