& City Enterprise Awards

Modern timber homes, a donegal based company won the National Enterprise Awards, presented at a gala dinner by Minister Micheal Martin at Croke Park.

Speaking at the award ceremony McColgan said he was thrilled and honoured. He acknowledged the support of Donegal County Enterprise Board and his dedicated staff for the success of the company.

Michael Tunney, CEO of Donegal County Enterprise Board said, “we are delighted that a Donegal business has won this prestigious award. Once again Modern Timber Homes has demonsrated that local companies are astute in identifying opportunties and converting them into success. Shaun McColgan and his team have built up a very successful business in less than three years. I hope that their winning of this award will inspire other new start ups in the county, and encourage existing businesses to enter the National Enterprise Awards in 2007.”

Organised by the County and City Enterprise Boards and with a prize fund of over €20,000, the National Enterprise Awards is open to small businesses that have been grant aided by Enterprise Boards throughout the country.

This year's winner, Modern Timber Homes, based in Letterkenny, specialises in the manufacture of timber frame structures. The company champion ecologically friendly and energy efficient houses as the way forward. Managing Director, Shaun McColgan says that energy efficient houses are the future because as people become more aware of the environment around them, demand will increase and he expects new markets and opportunities to develop.

THE FINALISTS

Representing Clare County Enterprise Board - Sportsworld Netting Ltd., Scarrif, Co. Clare, who supply retractable high netting systems, both manual and electric, for use on sports fields and permanent high netting structures for industry.

Representing Donegal County Enterprise Board - Modern Timber Homes Ltd., Letterkenny, Co. Donegal, who manufacture timber frame structures, room trusses and pre-hung door systems.

Representing Fingal County Enterprise Board - IBAT, Swords, Co. Dublin, who provide private education and training services.

Representing Offaly County Enterprise Board - Wilton Timber Products Ltd., Ferbane, Co. Offaly, who specialise in manufacturing self-assembly and assembled door kits for the construction industry.

Representing Sligo County Enterprise Board - Technical Ideas.com, Sligo, who have developed a healthcare administration software with the use of innovative cutting edge technology.

Representing Wexford County Enterprise Board - Apex Geoservices Ltd., Gorey, Co. Wexford, who conduct geological and geophysical surveys.
