Andrew Freedman and Ken Wardrop Co-founders of Antidote

Antidote provide a cure with a venomously creative take on commercial production

Film makers Andrew Freedman and Ken Wardrop have teamed up with freelancing director Dan Outram, to form Antidote, a dynamic production company. Set up in June of this year, the company specialises in commercial advert production.

CREATIVE CONTROL

Three years ago, Freedman and Wardrop set up Venom, a creative film company and it has achieved great success with its innovative short films. Undressing My Mother, the duo’s final year project at IADT Dun Laoghaire, picked up a number of accolades including awards at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival and the European Film Academy Awards.

Today’s audiences are much more media conscious than ever before, which has created a creative challenge to traditional forms of advertising. As Freedman explains, running a business does not inhibit creativity, on the contrary, the increased budget that comes with advert production enables even more creative freedom for Antidote. “We’re still sussing out the industry, it’s very competitive, with a lot of people fighting to do this work because it is so interesting,” he says.

GREEN SCREEN

The partnership has already enabled them to build a strong client foundation with Venom’s accomplished short film production. Recent Antidote projects include Godfather’s Pizza cinema adverts and the Green Party’s advertising campaign for this year's election. Although only a few months old, Antidote has grown dramatically, and the team finds it particularly inspiring to experience this type of development. “A big part of film making is the ability of the team around you and we are very proud of our team and their ability to deal with any project they’re working on,” enthuses Freedman. Future plans for Antidote include the expansion on the number of directors that they currently represent and an increase in their promotional activity.

Freedman’s advice to up and coming entrepreneurs,“the main thing is, don’t let anything get in your way. If you’ve a particular interest in something, there’s always a way into it,” explains Freedman. “If you believe you can do it, be confident, and don’t be put off by large scale projects.”
