SCHOOL OF SALES SOARS

Vanessa Tierney,
CEO of SOS School of Sales

Ireland's first assessment and training company for the sales industry offers a new services for jobseekers.

The sales industry has grown to become a dominant form of employment in Ireland. Almost every organisation needs salespeople, be it the hotel industry, consumer goods industries or the media. However, there is a lack of training and assessment available for aspiring sales people. This is where SOS School of Sales steps in offering a full range of Sales Assessment Days and Psychometric Testing Services for candidates who are seeking to start a career in sales.

Exclusive Training

Launched in 2003, SOS School of Sales have successfully trained, assessed and secured employment for over 1000 professionals and established itself in the corporate market with clients including leading institutions and multinationals. Vanessa Tierney is CEO of SOS School of Sales and is serving a new lucrative market.

“The reason I set up SOS School of Sales was because my background was in sales and I identified that sales is the one skill you don’t get taught in school or university. I saw there was no assessment centre in Ireland which catered for people who wanted to identify the right career path for them. I started SOS offering sales professionals the opportunities to do a one week training and assessment programme whereby they would be assessed and receive life coaching skills, career guidance and top international sales training from one of our international coaches,” explained the CEO.

SOS School of Sales prides itself in delivering top class sales training over five days, covering the in depth psychology of selling and the use of emotional intelligence through cognitive learning.

These elements of their training programme are then put into practice through intensive role playing, the use of recording equipment and one on one coaching sessions and the assessments, allowing the candidate to improve their selling technique for a specific service or product and allowing SOS to identify the company and sales position that each candidate will excel in.

Expanding Business

There has been a huge demand for SOS School of Sales unique services and the company continues to thrive, emerge, and grow. The growth rate of the company was 55.38% in 2006.
“In the first and second year we proactively sold our service but now all the calls are on an inbound basis from companies having heard of the advantages of using SOS and the quality of candidates we provide. Companies that have used SOS have experienced reduced staff turnover and SOS candidates are on the fast track to promotion,” says Tierney.

The CEO offers useful advice to other emerging entrepreneurs and is confident the “only way is up” for SOS School of Sales. “Do as much research as possible before you invest in the business and if it’s a new idea look at why the idea doesn’t already exist in the market. If it’s an existing idea see how the competitor is doing it and how you can do it better. Ultimately, learn how to sell because you will be selling your product and you will also be selling yourself and people will be buying into you first and then into your idea and product,” advices the entrepreneur.
